1964 – The Very First European
Jalsa Salana
In the very first Ahmadiyya Newsletter “Bulletin” from 1973 is stated that very important decisions were taken at the yearly Missionary Conference:
1. The first Mosque in Scandinavia was to be built in Copenhagen.
2, From 1964 and onwards all European Ahmadi Muslims were to be gathered for a yearly convent, Jalsa, at a suitable place in Europe. During the year of 1964 this Jalsa will be held in the Haag during summer.
The participants can find a place to stay over on their own, in a hotel, in tents or eventually with Dutch Ahmadi families.
The purpose of this Jalsa is foremost on the place where the convent is being held as well as give the European Ahmadis a chance to meet and exchange experience, so that a real Islamic community can be built in Europe.
This article was first published in Swedish language as a cyclostyled circular letter in Scandinavia in July 1963.
