Ahmadiyya in Norway
– a historical review
One of the first persons who joined Ahmadiyyat in Norway was Noor Ahmad Bølstad. He joined in 1956, only 16 years old. Initially he led the Norwegian Mission and was later given the title “Honorary Missionary” by the second khalifa, because of his valuable and dedicated work for the Ahmadiyya Jama’at. In 1988 he was made Amir in Norway by the fourth Khalifa.
The third Khalifa visited Norway in 1975 and 1978. The the fourth Khalifa went to Norway on his very first tour abroad. Among other things he also went to the northern parts of Norway, called for prayers, Azan, from the top of a high mountain and led the first Majlis-i-Shura in Norway.
In a global perspective Norway was first in the world to start Radio Islam in 1985, and 30 minutes long programs were broadcast twice a week.
These and other interesting facts are presented in the attached article which I wrote in Swedish 1988-1999. It was published in Aktiv Islam, Jubilee edition, printed 1990.
